Hi all, looking for a nice quiet site in the Dover area for about 4-5 nights starting 2nd Aug (+- 2/3 days). Will want to see Dover Castle, the 'tunnels ' from the war, a day trip to France (no van!) and poss Canterbury Cathedral. Just the 2 of us and would like a nice restaraunt nearby on one night for our anniversary. Many thanks!!

Or is it worth going to France for the whole stay? Select Sites have a nice looking site near St. Quentin in Picardy for about £110 inc ferry(plus supplements!??)

All you well travelled people are welcome to pass on your advice!!

Many thanks,

Gary

Can't help with sites but my money would not be on doing France for the whole stay. My recommendation would be on visiting Dover Castle tunnels and the underground hospital etc. - fascinating and really brings stuff home. Canterbury Cathedral is a must (we went there on our first date lol), it is just such a beautiful town and Cathedral - not to be missed if you like that sort of thing and are not in the area very often. We do the day trip to France often and love that too, we prefer to go by the Eurotunnel and not the ferry as its so much quicker. There you are, you can have the best of both worlds!

Try Hawthorne Farm at Martin Mill, about 5 miles north of Dover.

Very nice clean site, we have used it several times, both for weekends and overnight prior to catching an early ferry. There is a railway line behind it but the trains dont seem to run too late into the night. In any case you can get a pitch away from the line.

There are a couple of nice places to eat and drink nearby, and some excellent walks. Dover Docks is a 10 min drive.

As for nice restaurants, the village of St Margarets has a couple of good ones, not too far if you want to order a cab!
