Hi Sparkle

Keswick C&CC site is fabulous. Its location is second to none - right on the shores of Derwentwater, with Skiddaw behind you and the Catbells to the side. Breathtaking views. In the autumn it would be particularly scenic.

The site is clean and the staff are very friendly (one of the best C&CC sites I've been on). The toilets are clean (if a little jaded), but they are more than acceptable.

Amenities on site? Not really. A small play area for young children and a few essentials in the reception area.

As for outdoor pursuits....you're in walking Mecca! The Catbells are easily reached and are suitable for older children too.

Keswick town centre is literally 5 mins walk away and you've got everything you would ever need there - a great supermarket (Booths), pubs, restaurants, cafes, chippies and a plethora of outdoor gear shops. Take your credit card with you! Make sure you visit Fisher's - http://www.georgefisheronline.co.uk/home_4.shtml

We stayed here at Easter and had a great time. I would think the weather would be slightly better at October half term, but be prepared anyhow - the wind can certainly get up in this neck of the woods, so make sure your awning is well secured. Also, I'd go for a hardstanding as the grass can become VERY wet and boggy. Just a thought - the hard standings are HARD - you'll need some rock pegs with you. Some of the pitches actually look out over Derwentwater....

Book with confidence.

Enjoy!

Let us know how you got on!

Mac

hello sparkle,

have you already booked, as it gets booked up very very quickly, we go in less than 2 weeks, mid week, and i only just got in, and that was booked over a month ago, if you do go it will be wonderful, the views are marvellous, keswick can get busy, but its worth it, you can walk into keswick, use the supermarket, they had some good takeaways aswell last time we were there, i rejoined the ccc just to use this site, we cant wait, ill give you an update when we get back, good luck in booking, regards ED

Totally agree with the other comments, probably one of my top 2 sites, can't decide between the two. We are members of the C&CC mainly for this site. Have been once this year and going again next week (we were lucky to get a cancellation as it's usually booked up throughout the summer)

The wardens are very friendly and ask you where on site you would like to be and then show you to the pitch. They will help put the van on to the pitch if you want them to.

Keswick is a great place to visit. If you like veggie and wholefood try Pedlars cafe, the food is great. The Keswickian for great fish and chips to eat in or out, it gets very busy but the turnover is quick.

Can't wait to go back

thanks guys for your comments, i will definately try to book for half term in october, a couple of you mentioned it's one of your top two sites, what is the name of the other best site, so i can check that out too. I've only been to two sites this year but they are independantly run so not up to any standard like the cc or ccc sites so i'm looking forward to some quality!!!

Hey Sparkle

Don't assume because it's C&CC it's quality!

The sites are usually pretty basic - some more than others. They usually have redeeming features like great scenery/location(Keswick being a good example and also Sandringham too).

However, in my experience, they vary MASSIVELY on the quality of staff. Some are great - Keswick being a notable example. Others aren't so great....and I could go on to 'name and shame' a few sites....but I won't.

Book Keswick with confidence. It's very, very good.

Cheers Mac... i suppose quality will cost a hell of a lot more than the fees that CCC will charge!

Does this site take awnings? i forgot to ask, thanks

hello sparkle,

yes it does, you have to make sure you book a pitch with awning space, have you checked if they have spaces yet, the one thing about this site for us is the scenery, and the proximity to the lake, you ask what are our other favorite sites, we like loch lomond, ccc, and bunree in fort william, cc,again the scenery, but also new england bay, on the sticky out bit of scotland near stranrare, peaceful, and with the sea on your doorstep, we are hoping to go there again before it closes, and take the windsurfing gear, look through the site details you get a good idea of what you get, personally we have never had a bad experience at either clubs (caravan club, and camping and caravanning club) maybe we were lucky, but weve enjoyed them where ever theyve been, regards ED

There are many lovely sites around the UK but we especially like to be near a town or village where there's plenty to do, lovely scenery, walks etc etc within walking distance. It has to be a good site though and we don't need clubhouses, swimming pools etc. Therefore my fav sites are Keswick C&CC, Ayr Holiday Park at St. Ives in Cornwall and another I've remembered is Lomond Woods at Balloch, Loch Lomond.

There are others within walking distance of nice places eg Broadway CC, Chatsworth CC, Longleat CC and The C&CC at Culzean Castle - oh and Braemar CC. All of these are great places to visit. Also CC site, or Fallbarrow Park at Bowness.
