I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR A YEAR IT IS AN XS AUTO AND I AM WELL PLEASED EXCEPT FOR THE VERY HARD REAR SUSPENSION. IT IS SO HARD THAT IT HAS DAMAGED THE INTERNAL FURNITURE OF MY CARAVAN WHICH HAS HAD REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. SPEAKING TO OTHER OWNERS THEY ARE SATISFIED WITH THE CAR AND DON'T FEEL THE SUSPENSION IS A PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED TO GET KIA TO EXAMINE THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY BUT WILL ONLY DO SO IF I PAY FOR THE LABOUR.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHER CARAVANNERS SUFFER FROM THE SAME PROBLEM. DICKY B

Get it examined Malcolm, the suspension, while being a little firm is nowhere near what you describe, it would have been picked up on the many magazine tests it has been through. If they do find something wrong then it is up to Kia to fund the inspection and repairs. It could be something simple, how long have you had the car?

A year! Sorry, missed that. It's still under guarantee; so get the garage to check it out.

Check your nose weight suspension needs to extend as well as compress set it to the maximum allowed by the caravan manufacturer

because if the suspension is not suficiently preloaded it could be it coming up against its stops causing the problem.

Hi Malcolm

I have a Sorento also and agree that the suspension is very firm, this as I understand it helps to give a more stable tow, especially as the Sorento is self levelling.

I have a problem with the fixed units in my 18 month old caravan, in as much as the screws fixing the units to the wall have come loose on a few occasions. For example the dividing wall between the Kitchen and Bedroom will open up a gap as much as 4 to 5 cm's. I have complained to my dealer who has taken photographs of the wall and submitted them to the manufacturer.

I would think this problem is more related to the caravan suspension or just poor workmanship at the factory.

Regards Jim

Hi Malcolm,

I can't help thinking this is a van problem rather than the motor - it could be something simple like tyre pressures.

Tell us what van you have and maybe somebody has had a similar problem.

Hi,

I have a Sorento and tow a Bailey Bordeaux. I tend to take the van's noeweiight up to near its max (80kg) which is wel below the cars noeweight, and so far have had no problems with the van's interior, and the ride is probaly beetr than when the car is unloaded, which is firm.

Hi Malcolm

We tow a Bailey Pageant Vendee, with no problems at all.

The Sorento self leveling suspension is something to do with the shock absorbers rather than an air pump or similar system. It is possible your shocks are over compensating causing an unusually stiff rear. One for the dealer I think.

Cheers

Hi Jim C

You may well have a point about the quality of the van an Elddis Odyssey 534 which is the maximum length on one axle. However I do get complaints from the rear passengers on rough roads. I also load the nose to max 100kg which Kia have told me should make the ride softer.I am still trying to get Kia to pay for examination and if not will just have to put up with the ride. Thanks for your help
