Good morning,
I'm thinking about purchasing a Kia Sportage 'GT-Line' 1.6 T-GDi 148bhp 6-speed Manual (2WD) to pull our swift challenger sport 514 1230 unladen weight just wondering if anyone has any experience with this vehicle
thank you

No experience of that vehicle or engine but lot miles in similar low capacity modern turbo engines. These deliver max torque around 2000rpm which makes for effortless towing. Definitely worth test drive.

If budget will stretch to it AWD is nice plus for towing heavy caravans. Especially on wet roads and grass.

These ice only engines are prone to the PPF being blocked.

I would advise buying the hybrid which had 230ps until MY24.

Later models have a power reduction and lower towing limit of 1500kg.
It's a great tow car with 350nm from 1500rpm to 4500rpm.

What is PPF?

Is this a Kia problem or general petrol problem. I was hoping to get away from DPF diesel problems.
It affects some direct injection petrol engines, but certainly not all. My two Kia’s (2017 and 2021) haven’t been affected and we take no specific actions to minimise any problems. One is naturally aspirated manual, the other is 1.5 turbo 160bhp automatic.

PPF blockage can occur on petrol engines but it's far less likely than DPF blockage on a diesel - and that itself isn't likely as long as it isn't used solely for short, low speed journeys.
