Kindle battery

My wife has a Kindle which she has left on. The battery is totally flat and even after 24 hours plugged in shows no signs of accepting a charge.
Does anyone know if the battery can be replaced,
I haven't yet got in touch with Amazon to ask them

On Amazon there are kits available to replace the battery. YouTube and Bing have how to do it videos.
