Kirkstone Pass

How suitable is the Kirkstone Pass for driving whilst towing a caravan. My outfit is a 750kg Pennine Folding camper towed by a Renault Megane 1600cc so weight match is ok. It is a long time since I have driven the road and I was driving solo at the time so any advice would be helpful. Thanks, Martin

Kirkstone is not the fearsome pass it used to be due to the improvement in the road and in cars. going downhill meant cooked and fading brakes and uphill steaming radiators.

however do not take the chance of taking the minor road to Ambleside as this is a very steep downward incline and was recently closed because a coach went down and left the road and ended up in a persons back garden with a lot of injuries etc.IMHO
