Jo-anne,

Knaresborough is a lovely peacefull site. The Bistro is closed until further notice.

Good dog walks either accross the fields or through the woods, down to the river and into Knaresborough itself.A dog friendly pub serving good meals within walking distance in the next village.

The site is small by Club standards and the excellent loo block is centrally positioned.

There are some grass pitches, about 6, at the far side of the site.

Usual large hard standings with good tarmac roadways.

Some wonderfull "pie and pastry" shops in knresborough and of course the famous Bettys Tea Shop in nearby Harrogate.

Hi jo-anne. Haven't been yet but are due to go at the end of March. I'll post again when we come back.

Knaresborough itself is nice, had lots of days out there when i was little. There's Mother Shiptons cave and the petrifying well, you can go on rowing boats on the river, although whether that will be available as early as May, Im not sure. And theres the castle.

Have a look here, might give you some idea. http://www.knaresborough.co.uk/local_attractions.asp?searchtype=5&typeid=1048&banner=hotels

Hi Jo-anne,

We went their when the site was reopened with all the new hard standings , the site itself is situated on slight hill with all the pitches being level and easy to park.

We pitched at the top level with the toilet block which is quite

new, lucky really as we had some heavy rain showers which resulted in some of the lower pitches being flooded.

If I remember correctly driving through Knaresborough , turning into the approach road watch for overhanging buildings on your left as you go around the corner.

Site is great for easy access to the local Yorkshire countryside

Hi Jo-anne, Been to the site afew times coming from the A1 you have to drive through Knaresbourgh the main street I think market day is mid week which can be a bit busy. Then through the lights a couple of sharp and narrow bends just take your time.Wayne.

Hi Jo-anne,

We go to Knaresborough 3-4 times a year. It is a really nice site, slightly on a hill but all the hard-standings are more or less level - the grass pitches aren't though and can get a bit cut-up if it's been wet.

Loo block is usual excellent CC standard. Site restuarant was okay when it was open, but a bit basic.

When you drive in through Knaresborough main street, as you go down the hill after the shops you need to be in the left hand lane as you have to turn left at the lights then immediately right. After this the road is quite narrow for 3-400 yards, watch your 'van on restrictor posts on the pavement and on the curved wall after the top corner!

The road straightens for about a mile then you turn right just after a car sales garage, past a statics site, then CC is immediately after on the right.

Nice walks down into the village (Scotton I think) or back over the main road into the woods and down to the river. Really nice circular walk in here in good weather.

Enjoy it - we always do.

Hi Jo-anne,

We go to Knaresborough on a regular basis and have learned to avoid approching from Knaresborough itself.

We travel from Blackpool and approach the site from the Ripley village direction - the roads are not as restictive.

The guided tour of Ripley Castle is worth a visit.

The local pub (The Guy Fawkes) has a quiz on a Monday night and food is O.K. (It's dog friendly as well!)

There is a dog walk down the lane at the side of the site as well as further up by the river.

It's a well maintained site with a lot to see in the area.

Enjoy!

Ron.

I can agree with the other comments - its a lovely site and had a makeover a few years ago with a new toilet block - a quiet location generally - would also not recommend the approach from Knaresborough - bit narrow in places - we also approach from Ripley/Harrogate - Knaresborough is a pleasant market town with the remains of the castle overlooking the river - some nice walks in the area - Harrogate is good for shopping - York is not too far for a day out too
