Reg Im sorry if I seem to be a bit pedantic re the Kojack scissor jack, but I did as you are suggesting,I bought a small bottle jack & made 1/4" x 3" plate steel brackets to fit the holes in the chassis & to project 1/4 inch below the chassis rail in order for the bracket to engage in the slot on the top of the jack this did not prevent the brackets from bending out due to the distance between the lower fixing hole & the bottom of the chassis rail allowing to much flex in the plate steel bracket.the only solution is to drill another fixing hole lower downe but this invallidates ALKO's warranty

tHE kOJACK scissor is a hydraulic jack & lifts my 1360 kg van with ease & as said goes low enough to use with a flat tyre on the van or on the car

The jack sold by toolstation and screwfix is NOT the same as a kojack lite, the lite has a two stage piston, those at toolstation have only a single piston.

The idea of using a flat plate protruding below the chassis was far from what I had in mind. A flat plate as you describe has minimal lateral strength and is further weakened by the holes. Also by making the plate lower than the chassis you have increased the leverage in the lateral plane making it comparativly easy to bend at the lower hole as you have proven.

Ideally the bottom edge should be as near to the lower hole as possible and the cross section ideally should be "U" shaped. This will increase the bending moment and prevent the bending you have experienced.

I have produced drawings for the brackets for use with a bottle jack but have been unable to get to the workshop to get them fabricated. Once they are produced and tested I can release the details. But really they do need to be produced in a competant workshop.

I cannot get to my van due to the snow at the moment so I will have to take your word for it.

Hi Reg I agree with your approach, If you manage to produce suitable brackets IM sure that more than a few would be in the market.A pair off ALKO or KOJACK brackets are in the region of
