Hi , we are currently looking for our first caravan. We have seen many types and like the L shaped lounge , with either a fixed bed the other end or a dining area / double bed and in the washroom area we are hoping for a separate shower cubicle. So far we have only seen a few of this layout. One being an Ace Award and one being and Abbey (Vogue i think) .

What other makes / models will have a layout like this ? and If any of you have one similar , what are the pros and cons with this layout?

Many thanks and sorry for all the nightmare questions.

Cheers,

Kate and Andy.

Hi

we've got a Baileys Provence series 5. It has the L shaped lounge, double dinnette and a seperate shower. We find it ideal for our needs. Do you have a dog and howmany kids (if any) As only our youngest daughter comes away with us, what we have done is remove the cusions and bunk and put in a memory foam mattress. A 4'6" fits a treat. And the daughter sleeps at the front.

The Bailey Pageant Provence (series 6 or 6)is worth a look to see if it fits your requirements.

We've got a series 6 Provence and when there's only the two of us we leave the rear dinette made up as a double (nice and wide and long).

When the two grandsons come then we use the dinette as their play/eating area and they usually sleep on the individual beds although one is now 10 and just getting a bit tall for the 4'6 length, so the last time they came with us it was his job to make up the double and they both slept on the double in individual sleeping bags (it keeps them apart and they don't disturb each other if one needs to use the bathroom during the night). The folding door keeps the light out and they settle down much quicker in their own room.

It takes us about two minutes to make up the front bed when the kids are with us otherwise we use the rear.

The bathroom works fine with the seperate shower although bending down to get your mouth under the washbasin tap to clean your teeth is a bit snug - I now use the glass to rinse. The kids usually use the site facilities coz they like to stand for ages under the showers but my wife always uses the van shower and so do I if the weather is really foul.

The L shaped lounge area gives a feeling of space and we can both sprawl out to watch the TV or read. A small portable table is useful to put the G&Ts, olives and crisps on to save getting out the dining table.

Hi

We have a Sterling Eccles Amethyst (2004). It has the L shaped front lounge and the diner at the back. We tend to make the bed up at the back and leave it made up as there is plenty of room at the front to relax in. It has the seperate shower which I used on our last trip and although it isnt huge and I bumped my elbows a couple of times, its a very nice shower to use.

I would definately recommend a unit with the L shaped lounge - look around your local dealers and on the internet (maybe fleabay) to get an idea of what models/manufacturers there are.

Until it was discontinued (only in the last month) the Compass Omega 540 (and its Elddis Odyssey 540 counterpart) had exactly the layout that you are after. Ther should still be some around new. We were looking at one of these, but in the end we got a real bargain on a secondhand Sterling Eccles Jewel. The Sterling doesn't have the L-Shaped lounge, but it does have a nice big shower and a good fixed bed. (The Omega was gorgeous though!)

The only downside as far as I can see is Lshaped longe area is not big enogh.

For just the 3of us its fine but if you have a coupole of visitors round Im afaraid its nosh ion the awning

Other than that a really niced van

I hope this helps
