David You will find it hard to beat www.viamichelin.com you can set the type of outfit you are driving and you can expand the maps at intersections and set "via" points if you want to detour from the suggested route. Print off the route and any expanded intersection maps, an A4 paper it is easy to use in the car for you or you navigator.

I use Sat Nav but on long trips a via M route for fine tuning is an ideal back up.

Apart from details re hotels and points on route and customizing for the type of outfit you are driving.

You can also use or cross reference with www.mappy.com as well, they have good aerial photos of their French maps so you can get a good idea of the locale of places you nay want to stop at on route.
