Hi all my brother test drove a new discovery last weekend and came up to us in Scotland (700 mls round trip) he was mightly impressed with the vehicle that he ordered one.The salesman told him not to take delivery of one till Sept as the first release of vehicles have the old Freelander engine,as of Sept the new engine will be fitted which is better fuel economy and a 9 speed Auto box.The finish of the vehicle was very goog and the panoramic roof is a great feature. It sounds like your brother benefited from a very honest salesman, then, as that's exactly what we say in our review – it is great and it is likely to get even better.

May be things have changed as we were always brought up being told never buy the brand new model as the first purchasers are used to iron out the last few problems. May be things have changed but you certainly get a better deal on the older models.
