Can someone please help me,Im having great difficulty and lots of clutch burning smells trying to hillstart with my caravan hitched.A friend mentioned the Freelander has an anti stall fitted which means that bonce the handbrake is released the clutch should be disengaged as fast as possible and the gas can be increased to pull away.Is my mistake trying to hillstart it like a car with gas and clutch control.

Hi Stephen - I have not heard of this anti stall device you mention. But we have a 1.8 not a TD4.

I agree with Sharon/Anthony that a techy LR Forum should show up any problems but having had a quick search on two of them - nothing comes up about premature wear or smells.

Just a couple of reports of how people have changed the clutch.

If you are having to slip the clutch then it will wear quicker than if you don't!

Without seeing how you achieve a smooth pull away no one would be able to say what is wrong I would suggest.

What is the gradient you are having to negotiate?

Anti stall is only on the TD5 Discovery and only works in low range

There, I know this because I asked the dealer when I kept stalling mine. His answer, MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD!

Worked as well!
