large pump under seat

I have just got a second hand 1998 SWIFT CHALLENGER 490SEL.

I do not pick it up until next week but have had a look at it and one thing I found, under the front seat there looked like a large pump, is this for the water or the heating or some thing else ?

Hello Reg,

This sounds like a previous owner has added it.

If the body has a green plastic part and a black motor part, then it is most likely a Sureflo pump. This differs from the the more usual submersible pumps by using positive displacement to pump the water. It can usually suck water up from the outboard water container so it is self priming.

It has a pressure switch system built into the pump, and it can generaly provide better pressure than a submersible pump, but not always better flow.

Whilst is is most likely to be for the water systems as a whole, no on here can give you a cast iron answers as to it actual function.

May be a previous owner has added an inboard tank.
