Late Bookings to Ireland - turn up and go

We are looking to return to Ireland. On previous visits we have booked the ferry in advance due to our travel pattern. We now have a more flexiable approach to our scheduling. Has anybody any experience of turning up at the ferry port and booking and going? Are their any cost advantages/dis-advantages in this approach?

Any further assistance would be appreciated.

I put a thread on here asking for an "Irish Ferry Guru" who knows where to get best deals, but I had little response Derek.

I use Ferries to France a great deal and can get deals, I guess turning up at ferry port to Ireland could be the same as Ferries to France where you normally pay full price!

If you call an Irish camp site and book a few days with them, many can give you a discount code for Irish ferries! I don't know how much you save but fellow UK tourers told us about this last summer.

I'm still looking for a good deal to book for July/August if anyone has any info as I think the fares to Ireland are way to high.

Hope I can help here for anyone using Northern Ireland as their destination. Stena are the company to use from Stranraer. They are totally flexible and always accomodate you, it is simple to change return bookings onto earlier boats etc. P&O well enough said.. Norsh Irish Ferrys from Liverpool are OK but not very flexible (commercial boat)

Try to book your trips to travel either before end of May or after mid september to get the best deals. Summer season is open market and prices soar.
