Out of interest....what are peoples views in parking up in laybys?

Would you feel safe these days?

How about motorway services...thats has to be safer?

I supose lorry parks, laybys ok?...if well lit?

I don't think we could do that these days.

Hi,

I think you'll find it is illegal to stop overnight in a layby, and the police are within their rights to escort you to the nearest 'travellers' site! Many motorway services allow you to stop but will charge, I have seen figures of

Motorway services are noisey to say the least as more often than not you are dumped in or next to the lorry park, and why pay more than proper site fees for that.

It realy depends on the police area your in and the type of layby. If it is a large layby well off the road and you don't look like your taking up residence then most coppers turn a blind eye.

Just out of Leominster on the A49 we have a fulltimer in a Hymer who frequents the same layby for weeks on end, he is doing nobody any harm and doesn't look like he is there permanently so the boys in blue leave him alone.

Hi

Being a retired tanker driver for the past four years and a caravaner for a lot more years than that,I would say no to overnight parking on either Mway services or Lay byes, Because you can bet your life as soon as you get settled down,a big fridge motor will come and park right next to you and all you will hear all night is the fridge tripping in and out.plus all the other comings and goings. Its happened to me.

Find a nice C L some where

We tried a few hours sleep in a motorway service area, a couple of years ago, and wouldn't do it again!

We had to park near the lorries, what with their refrigeration running constantly, and the awful smell of diesel and urine, we didn't get a wink of sleep!

Find a CL or site!

I would highly recommend you look for a caravan site to pitch overnight, even a CL if necessary. Most CC sites have overnight parking facilities, with use of toilet block(s), etc. This is much safer and certainly much cleaner than parking in a lorry area on a motorway. The smell of urine in lorry parking areas is dreadful, apart from the diesel fumes and fridges going all the time.
