The sound on my 15" caravan LCD TV is "tinny" to say the least, I've noticed at the back of it there's two sockets marked "audio out"

Does any one know where I can buy a set of auxiliary speakers to beef up the sound? I've looked around the HI FI shops and can only find computer speakers which will only plug into the headphone socket on the front

You could try Maplin Electronics for a set of speakers but I suspect that you would need to run them through an amplifier to get the sound you want.

The audio out sockets on my Toshiba will not drive speakers directly.

I have a cheap (Tesco) micro stereo system and I connect the audio out from the TV to the audio in of the stereo system and turn the stereo to AUX.

Sound is much better and I have CD and radio too.

We run the output from the audio out connections on the LCD TV to the aux in connections on the fitted CD/radio (the ones you would connect a CD Stack to).

Perfect sound and leads are available from Halfords and some pound shops as well as Maplins.

Thanks for the input, from your replies it looks a though I need speakers with an amplifier and an independent power supply.

No need to do that Roy - I've had a brilliant idea. Get yourself one of those unmentionable vehicles with big wheels. Get a trailer commissioned, place the speaker in the trailer and away you go.

Garry its funny you should say that but I tried that yesterday with the output from the TV via phono leads to the input leads on the built in car radio on the Oklahoma and it wouldn't work.

I selected aux on the radio but to my surprise nothing.

Am I missing something?

Difficult to say without seeing both manuals but I would check things in this order.

I am assuming that when you say phono plugs you are talking about audio(L) and audio(R) not an earphone jack.

Check that you are selecting right source - if you have connected to the CD changer input at the back but there is an aux socket at the front for portable equipment you may have to find another selection (CD changer).

If you do have the aux input at the front try connecting that to the earphones jack on the TV (diffferent lead required) I have used this method as well.

Try both volume controls, on aux it should only be the radio volume control that makes a difference but on ours both can turn it down.

Go into TV audio menu and see if you have to select an option for int or ext speakers/amplifier.

Check the hanbooks to see if relevant audio out and audio in impedances are a close or equal match (I might leave this until last as they should be)

If none of these make any difference try swapping components to find the source of the problem i.e.

Check the cable by using from a home DVD/VCR to home TV/hi-fi.

If that works connect the caravan TV back into the DVD/VCR end of the cable and see if it works to the home TV/HiFi

If that works you could try another audio source on the van radio.

Thanks Garry

I know that the leads from the TV (phono speaker) are Ok because they work through the amp I made using a computer speaker.

I take your point about the aux /front input and will have another go later

Many thanks

Hi Garry no joy so far

There are 2 sets of leads at the back of the radio and I have tried both but expected the one marked CD to work

The sound lead from the TV outlet works if fed into the ex computer speaker/amp and then on to the speakers so I thought that it would just be a case of plugging the same leads from the TV into the CD lead but in aux or anything else there is no sound.

I am probably better sticking with the existing set up using the ex comp speaker/amp as that is only feeding the front speakers and there is no need for sound belting out at the back of the van so to speak.

I don't like not getting things to work though!!!

It sound like the problem is definitely with the radio from what you say.

I would check through the manual and make sure you are selecting the source correctly, and all volume controls are up.

You could check the aux input by touching a small battery across the wires - you should hear a click, my guess is you won't and the last paragraph or a fault is the answer.

One other solution if yours is a tape deck is to buy one of these

I have seen them for less.

Thanks again Garry

It seems to me like the radio although its new and came with the van.

Its strange that the leads on the back are marked CD when its got a built in single disc CD anyway.

Hi Garry

I have now got a different TV and employing the same technique the sound will now come through the car radio /speakers via the "aux" position as tried and failed before.

So we now have a TV at the front of the van with amplified speakers and a TV at the rear of the van with amplified speakers .

If you park next to us please as for the volume to be reduced or turn yours down and use ours!!!

Not really!!
