When towing my Elddis Wisp 450 with my Peugeot 406 HDI 110 the outfit feels like it's about to starting swaying at about 55mph. I always load up correctly, by the way. I currently use a Snakemaster stabiliser but am wondering wether something like an Alko 1300 stabiliser would be any better. Does anyone out there have any experience of using both of these stabilisers on their caravan? Thanks for any help, Chris.

There's no real difference between the Al-Ko 2004/3004 stabilisers and blade-type stabilisers in damping quality - the difference is in cost and convenience. The Al-ko 1300 is inferior to the 3004.

Changing from a Snakemaster is unlikely to cure any stability you may have - check your loading regime and noseweight.

Hello Chris,

If you experiencing the onset of instability at 55mph with a stabiliser, then think what might happen if your stabiliser failed? A stabiliser should never be used to make an unstable outfit towable.

Do what Roger says, but only use the stabiliser as a belt and braces rather than a primary control element.

i agree that you should never use a stabiliser to counteract an unstable load but i definately think the leaf spring type are inferior to the alko type.have towed with both under same conditions(alko 2004)(bulldog 2000)and the alko was much much better especially when buffeted by large wagons, artics etc.would definately recommend over leaf spring
