Leaking Water heater, Is it Terminal?

Hi.

After ages trying to get the drain bung on my Carver water heater to seal I've found that its not the bung but the heater its-self thats leaking, it's dripping off the bottom of the outside cover.

Does anyone know if its likely to be terminal for the heater or if it can be repaired?

Cheers Gareth

Certainly not terminal, infact leaks on the outside are generally east and cheap to fix yourself.

First remove the outer flue cover and find out where it's leaking, apart from the drain bung, there is a 'quick drain valve' directly above the drain bung and it's common for this to crack at it's base, the slightest touch normally snaps it off completely.

Only problem is removing the broken threads left in the heater, when you get spares from me, I supply a pictorial help sheet to show how it's done easily and safely, you do not use a stud extractor, however much a good idea that would seem?!

Lastly, the 'fusible plug' set in the fins in the centre of the heater, it shows itself as a 13mm nut. Filled with wax, this is there to melt allowing water to put the burner out if it does not switch off when it should. However, it does suffer from age and can start to weep water, simply unscrew the old one and replace with new

Gary, You are a star!

I'll strip it down when i next see it at the weekend, my in-laws are using it this week.

Can you e-mail me at "garethtremenlli@gmail.com" as i'm never able to find old threads on this forum!

I'll let you know what parts I need.

Thanks

Gareth
