leaky loo

hi, we've just changed our caravan to a coachman vip 2001,last week of the school hols we went off to try out everything was in working order,and twice when my hubby went empty the loo...on the actual cassette where the top handle grab is it was full of wee and flush fluid to put it politely..bit bemused after a good head scratch he said that the rubber ring seal on the top felt quite soft and flexible comparing it to our old van cassette which was quite firm and solid to touch...he wonders wheather its the seal that's gone...the toilet wasn't full either, has anyone had this problem or sugestions to help us with. thanks wendy

Hi Wendy,

I would suggest you remove the top seal and and clean it. Inspect it for any little nicks in the seal flange. Any problems change it otherwise lubricate the seal with olive oil and refit it.

Check the area at the bottom of the toilet bowl where the seal makes contact and clean it.

I had the same problem as you and this procedure did the trick for me.

Are the children opening the toilet before they use the toliet? The wee may be because the children have not opened the cassette seal and the wee has no where to run,so it seeps through the rubber seal and it is caught in the handles of the cassette.

Try tipping some water down there whilst it is closed. The fluid could also be because they think they have to flush then open, hence also the coloured water.

Hope this helps.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but;

Is the toilet meant to be used with the flap open or closed ?

ie. Do you open the flap before use or afterwards ??????

Sorry but someone has to ask !

yes graham we wondered the same leave it open or closed ...on our old cassette the long oblong one we had no problems either ways...this loo is one of the newer swivel one's...

anyway to all who as responded i thank you all for the advice will let you all know later on and we are going to check out the seals for cracks etc

wendy
