Do you mean the ones that replace normal bulbs inside the caravan or the ones that replace the tail/brake lights ?

Whichever it is I would also like to know.

Hi Tony,

We have two LED reading lights in our Eriba, and they certainly have a very low power requirement.

The mistake we made was to get the very bright, white LED - these are very white (blue-white) and it's a very cold light.

You can now buy LED lights that either use "warm white" LEDs or a mixture of the white and warmer coloured LEDs - probably a bit down in light output but nicer to sit under.

David,

LED lighting should stay cool to the touch - they use a semiconductor effect to convert electricity directly into light.

Halogen and other incandescent bulbs produce light by heating a metal filament to temperatures around 1,000

And the ultraleds company sell LED car bulb replacments too.

My car is supplied with LED lighting from the factory, but if you have a modern car with "bulb failure" sensors - you may or may not have a "false reading" problem if you use a LED bulb - they have a totally different resistance to the incandescent bulbs

And ultraleds.co.uk was the first site I came to, there are many places that sell high intensity LED

Hi Tony, i am new to forums so if my usage appears improper please forgive me.

"Light Emitting Diode" are not bulbs in the usual sense, They have tremendous potential in the caravanning world. as they emit light without the drawbacks of heat and fragility.

It is HARD to break one compared to bulbs, you can drop them onto the floor and they still work.

They only draw a fraction of a "WATT" to shine, so a LED light can be left on for many hours and still only consume the same current that a traditional lamp would use in MINUTES.

Over the years i have fitted leds to my caravans with no problems of any kind, early projects included indicators of switches left on "Awning light still on" the led shone on the ceiling. Testing the 7 core cables N and S. Very low lighting at night from bed to wc. Down lighting bulb replacement, last year the WHITE leds were blue-ish and this year brilliant white (warmer). all i have planned for this winter is a disco arrangement in the roof vent (Omnivent).

As i write two little friends flash RED then Blue inside our unattended Abbey caravan.

Hello Thomas,

I was very interested to hear what you had to say about LED lighting inside the caravan. I want to change over as much as possible to LED and initially I got two LED 'bulbs' with bayonet fittings ,to directly replace the halogen 10 watt bulbs in my Labcraft downlighter reading lamps. They gave excellent light - but were slightly the wrong shape for the bayonet fitting to hold. So they went back to Ultraleds who refunded. I then fitted two LED lamps that I bought from OLeary Motorhomes, and these work fine, except they do not give quite enough light to comfortably read etc., but I will leave them in place as economical background lighting. I am now looking for two more LED lamps to fit instead of the remaining two halogen 10watt - and then hopefully start on the strip lights and ceiling dome fittings. So far however, no joy with finding the right ones!

Hi Rod.

The good old labcraft company has a range of led lights.

the orbit range of 3 sizes looked good to me, so i bought 2 orbital (oval) units, "fantastic", bright 2 high power leds and the touch switching is built in.

Strip lights are available (not to pretty to look at) would fit between the roller blind and pelmet this i have NOT done yet but may.

also an LED awning/bulkhead (rain proof) light is out there.

my awning/porch lamp has 2 white (blueish) car 24 leds i think ?, not as good as the 2 10watt filament bulbs, but i can leave them on all night if i wanted and not have a flat battery. try JM Goods at www.jmgoods.co.uk i have bought other bits (boys Toys) before.

hope this helps
