I have recntly purchased a second Hand Caravan (ABI Viceroy). Problem is my battery is U/S and it looks like a car battery. I need to replace it but slightly confused as to what AHC? Can any one please help?

Hi..

Ok let's try to point you in a starting direction..

Leisure battery's are ever so slightly different in their construction to standard car battery's.

A car battery is designed to be continually on charge and be able to deliver a large current for a short period ( Starter Motor ) but will not perform well if allowed to run flat repeatedly.

However a Leisure battery is designed to be fully charged and then run down with a relativly small current being drawn over a long period of time before being recharged. You can use a car battery if you have a spare but a leisure battery is not too much these days .

What size is up to you they tend to start at 85 AH and move up to 120 AH ish the main issue is how big is the battery box in your van and how much weight you can afford to take up with a battery as it all comes off your allowed payload.

Regards Brian......

Brian,

Thanks for the info. I was confused as the battery alreadi in my van was a car battery and not a leisure one.

I will now go and purchase a new battery!

Thanks again

Mark (new to caravanning)
