After getting extremely cross with trying to level the caravan last weekend my husband has decided to buy a Milenco Aluminium Leveller. He found that reversing the caravan with the motor mover on to the plastic levellers made the van twist round. Has anyone any other ideas for levelling a single axle caravan. Your advice would be appreciated.

You're right Eileen - using the mover does make the van slew. What we do is to take account of this by positioning the van in such a way so that when it is moved up onto the ramps it straightens the van out at the same time. It does take a bit of practice though. I would advise not to buy the leveller until you have tried the mover out a bit more - you might save a bit of money and weight.

Save you money & take your time in what you are doing !!

What you do in that situation is move both wheels a bit at a time.

By the sounds of it he was only moving one wheel up one of the leveling ramp's & that has caused the van to twist

I never reverse up the levellers. The brakes are designed to release when reversing. Once you stop and apply the handbrake it is not always fully engaged. We go back as far as we can then come forward a few feet onto the ramps.

One of you can then take the weight on the slew side to stop the twist holding either the jockey wheel or grab handles.

I assume "access not very good" refers to your storage area? Why not level the ground out?

Cheers

We had a milencco leveller once! I found it very difficult to wind up and I'm only 39 and quite fit!! I also found that if the ground was a bit spongy, it sank. Just my experiance tho!

Eileen,

I use Fiamma lego type levelling blocks to level my twin axle. they work just as well on a single axle. They come in packs of six blocks, and can either be placed next to each other, or locked together like Lego. I lock them together like lego so they cannot move when either towing forwards onto them, or reversing onto them.

They are very light weight, and made of a type of polypropaline.

They are about 16cm square, and 1 and a half cm thick, and each block will take 1500kgs. I have used my set for about 8 years and they still look like new.
