levelling twin axle

Hi Guys I know we have had a go at this one in the past but I have to say I have today been and had a look at how to level ours up as weve not beenout in yetI can see using the old yellow levellers will only leave the first axle firmly on the deck so is it fair to get the first axle up on the yellow levellers and then lift the second axle with a trolley jack. Hi Stewart,

I put the caravan a couple of feet behind or forward of where I want it, then put the yellow wedges down one in front of the other with a gap between them of about 8 inches, then run a wheel completely over the first wedge and onto the second, the second axle wheel is then on the first wedge and the other wheel on the other wedge at the same time.

I hope this makes sense!

I have used the two spaced ramp method for the last ten years.

Having measured the distance center to center of the axle spacing on our twin axle van, I now set the ramps out at 41 inches apart from peak to peak. This gives excellent levelling results in the dry.

To aid our winter caravanning, I have screwed the ramps to 65 inch length of builders plank. This holds the ramps firm and stops any sinking and damage on grass pitches. I also have a plain plank the same length (65 inches) to go under the other side to stop the wheels sinking.

For storage on the van, I have fitted a steel "u" shaped loop just behind the back axle, to both chasis rails. I slide the ramps accross the van through the loops and secure the ends with a "G" clamp at each end to stop them sliding out.

A little bit of forward thinking saves a lot of struggling in thewet and windy winter.

We use either a 2" plank of wood that spans both wheels or, if a lower level is required I use the two yellow levelling blocks. I place the caravan where I want it. Place the two yellow blocks at the side of both wheels - indicate to my hubby to pull forward, push the blocks into place then call him back. The back wheel goes over the first block then starts up the second. Both wheels should then be moving up at the same height. I have the spirit level in sight and call him up gradually until we are level. No probs.
