Has anyone had experience of the Liber-t system on French autoroutes? What are pros and cons? How do you purchase the gadget/subscription from UK?
Nick - thanks, that settles it - if I can't use it with the caravan there's no advantage. They can be ordered on line for payment by credit card from most of the Autoroute companies, i.e. https://www.telepeagepourtous.fr/fr/particulier/souscrire
I have one & the main advantage is jumping the queue at the card & manned booths. It also saves waking up SHMBO at the booth to put money in.
Apart from the upfront cost, 10 or 30 _ the disadvantages are:
You can only use them for Class one vehicles (no caravans)
Idiots who try to go through the Liber-t lane without the device & then have to reverse back out.
Certainly that one does require a French bank accountI beleive you can obtain a class 2 Liber-T from Alis. They are the organisation that runs the A28. They offer discounts for travel on the A28 and the tag works on the rest of the autoroute network with no discounts. Here is their web site page for it -

But a problem is that unless they have changed things from last year, you have to have a French bank account for them to be able to debit. It may be worth giving them a call to see if they can take Visa or Mastercard yet.
Cheers
