You're quite within your rights to give it a damn good boot (making sure of course your boots or shoes are solid).

I've done it many a time.

Lisa
Even better - give the owner a boot

Oops - that's not allowed!

Hi Roger

I don't know if this just applies to SBT's but in New Zealand, you are only allowed three dogs per premise. They have to be registered with 'the officials' and the 'officials' visit the property once a year (or more if there are issues). Obviously there is a fee per dog. My understanding is it works quite well. Obviously, NZ has a smaller human population.

I don't know, something has to change in this country.

Anyway, have to go now as I have a home check to do for the SBT rescue and it's a bit of a drive away. Hopefully the dog will be placed in its new home tomorrow if the family/property etc pass my check.

Lisa

p.s. what breed do you have? love the Sweden story. LOL!!
I would much rather people had to have training and a licence to have children .

Just thought that I would point out that in Northern Ireland you do need to have a license to own a dog. Makes no difference, all it is is a tax to help fund the Dog warden service.

I think dogs get a bad rap. Humans have owned dogs for 15,000 years, but in the last few years with laws concerning lifting poo, restrictions on where they can be exercised off the lead etc it is getting increasingly difficult to own a dog. I own labradors, and would not dream of getting a dog from one of these aggressive breeds, but you run the risk of being prosecuted even if your dog playfully knocks a child over. IMHO the world has gone nuts over worrying about this type of stuff - see the post in the dog attack thread about someone getting angry about dogs peeing on grass pitches!!!

William

You may have dog Licences in N.I. as well as lots of dog rules and regs, but as I noted previously, the only people who are affected by rules and licence fees are the decent law abiding people who would behave anyway.

The bad people who need to be licenced would avoid paying and carry on breaking the rules.

So I can't realy see the benefit of dog licences other than providing more tax for the government to spend on MP's expenses.

William you're saying it's outragious the laws now to pick up after your dog and to be prostected for your dog knocking someone over like it's acceptable. I own a Rottweiler and my dog is made to walk to heel ignore anyone and everyone i would never let my dog knock over a child let alone think it's wrong to be prosecuted for it!

The fact of the matter is dogs should be kept under control at all times being allowed to knock children over is far from being under control so IMHO if that is what your dog is capable of it should be leashed at all times and have constant training.

My dogs do not knock children over, I made this point as an example of how ridiculous the current mania is regarding what constitutes an attack (either by a dog or a person). When I was a kid a neighbours Golden Retriever used to charge at me to greet me, and it being 40kg at a time when I was half that weight sometimes it bowled me over. I never considered it an attack, nor did my parents, and that is how it should be.

As for lifting dog waste. Yes if it is on paths, mowed grass etc, but I have seen people disapearing into the undergrowth in my local forest park to lift their dog's doos. IMHO insanity.

i have a lab and my kids and ex wife have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and she is more cuddly than my lab so its the owner not the dog in 99 per cent of cases,

personally i think it would be better if all kids were on a lead and only alowed out with supervision my dog does not wear a hoody or mug people play football near my caravan and say sorry when the ball hits the roof,
