Hello managed to raid the local Lidl yesterday at 8.00am and grabbed a sat kit.

Attempted to set up last night took great care with cable connections etc. But could not find a signal from Astra. The signal meter on the info screen hovered at about 35%. Has anyone set up this new kit yet? Do you have to wait with the disk in a certain position for the meter to move. Any information greatfully received

John, I got one of these systems yesterday and set it up last night. The dish was sat on my dining room table pointing South and it was almost horizontal. With a bit of fine adjusting I managed to get 70% signal strength. It showed about 30% at first but once the satelite was located it worked great. It took some time but if you move the dish slowly you should find the satelite.

With this system I got loads of channels but you will not be able to get C4 or C5 as they are scrambled by Sky.

Thanks for the reply, I assume your dining room table was outside!

I was worried that the dish might be too small for north yorkshire, where are you located please?

Will try again tonight.

Table was inside but I had patio doors open.

I am in Durham and I think the dish is supposed to bo OK for all over this country. I looked at neighbours satelite dishes on their wall and tried to copy them. The dish was almost horizontal when it gave best reception. The signal was poor but as soon as the satelite was located it was excellent.

I was in Hawes a couple of weeks ago and got no digital reception at all, only analogue - boosted by the site, that is part of the reason for trying the satelite system.

Happy searching.

John, when I said the dish was almost horizontal I meant vertical - the arm attached to the dish was horizontal. Just to save you pointing the dish up in the air!!!!!

Hi John,

We have only just recently got satellite for the caravan and found the following web-site very good.

www.UKSatelliteHelp.co.uk

Punch in your post code and it tells you how to line up.We've now done it for the sites we are going to,so hopefully won't get into too much of a mess.

Thank you for your helpful comments, but I am still struggling!

I actually bought two kits one for home and one for out and about.

I have set one up and simply cannot receive a thing despite following the direction of my neighbours dishes. Having two kits I was able to swap receiver and LNB but still no joy.

When you set up yours were you aware of any signals coming in on the meter.,or was it dead till you hit Astra?

I am totally beaten! I wonder if anyone has a working set within driving distace of Harrogate which I could have a quick look at.

Any information greatfully received

Hi John.

We got our Lidl sat kit a couple of years ago.

First of all you need to align the dish to astra 28 east. The compass supplied with the kit is a bit finiky so what I used was a builders spirit level placed virtically across the front face of the dish having set the level to 28 deg. Then by very minute tweaking of the angle and direction I then got sigal of 78%.

Having got the dish set I then marked the original compass with tipex to identify angle and direction.

With the above done at home using the suction pad mounting I then proceeded to set up the dish on the caravan to the tipex marks on the compass, which usually takes about 20 mins of fiddling now.

We can use either our home sky package or the free view set supplied with good results now.

We got our sat kit because we go to FForrestfields a lot and there TV signal is crappy to say the least even using their special virtical band high gain ariels, but our lidl sat gets us out of the dark ages.

The tipex trick saved the day and my patience!!

Hello John ,have had our Lidle one for some time now so have played around with it a lot.As most people have told you set it up even with the compass thing which tells you London then turn dish to Astra which is only a slight move, it helps also to get the bubble level in the centre. Now at this point you might be getting German TV and all manner of stations so a little adjusting again and you might get right signal for your area. I also bought that signal meter they sell which gives a buzzing for strong signal but that again can be continental stations until move it slightly for London. Anyway best of luck ,they are worth the money.

Hello John,

We got our LIDL set a while ago and couldn`t get it to tune in.

Spent ages messing with it and decided it was broken so I contacted the number given for warranty/repairs. The guy at the other end was very polite and helpful and said they were incredibly reliable, and sent me more detailed info on how to set it up.

Now it takes less than 10 minutes from getting the box out of the boot. I may still have the e-mail on my system at work, if so I will pass it on or get you a copy.

I`m just in the process of clearing the van out as I`ve a new one coming (been at it for ages and still not done!), so I`ve got bits everywhere.

I can`t have binned it, so as soon as I find it I`ll let you know.

Found it!

Doesn`t seem much but it worked for me. Here goes:-

With nothing on screen

PRESS LIST

SELECT ASTRA28 EAST BY PRESSING THE LEFT or RIGHT BUTTONS

SELECT BBC1 LONDON (HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW)

PRESS OK

NOW PRESS INFO

This will give you the parameters of BBC1 London and 2 meters

1 is for signal intensity and 2 is signal quality

Press number 1 (one) on the remote control to activate the beeper you will now hear a tone which will increase as you get very close to the satellite.

You will now need to align the dish.

Astra 2 is located at 28degrees east of South i.e.as you look due south 28 degrees is left of South.

The dish elevation depends on your location in the UK.

For the South coast the dish elevation should be about 4 degrees back

For the North the dish should be vertical

For Scotland (say Dundee) the dishneeds to point forward 2 degrees.

Make sure there is nothing in the way of the dish and satellite, trees, buildings etc.

With the dish face vertical it is actually looking UP about 28 degrees because it has a built-in offset angle so bear this in mind when there are trees or buiding close by and make sure the dish will clear the obstacles.

When moving the dish move it VERY SLOWLY as the signals are digital which means they are either ON or OFF and if you move the dish too fast the receiver will not have time to LOCK-IN.

Thats about it.

I did the above and got it sorted. I don`t think I had the dish properly vertical, and wasn`t giving the signal a chance to lock-in. Move the dish a tiny amount, wait, then move a tiny amount again. If you go too far or too fast you can pass the signal without knowing it.

Best of luck.

Hello all again

Sucess!!

I think the problem was the cable into the LNB The manual says cut off the coax inner leaving 2mm I suspect this is a bit short as the connection is quite deep within the LNB. Any way I have now got reception after a bit of fiddling. and the picture quality is amazing bearing in mind how small the dish and receiver are! I too have marked the compass and I can now find the satellite within a few minutes.

Two questions there appears to be no english radio stations listed, any ideas? And has anybody managed to get Astra at 19.2 Degrees. Which carries mostly German stations.

Thanks for all the info folks.
