Bought one of these late yesterday as by then they were down to £29.99, Very impressed with it - the number of fixing & clamping options for the dish is ingenious. Never used a satelite system before but I had it up & running in half an our at home to check it works. Reckon I could do it in 10mins now.

Only odd issue is that you have to attach the end fittings to the cable yourself. So if you've bought one of these & are not opening it till you get to a site make sure you take pliers & a stanley knife with you.

Glenn - you must have a very good system - Ive bought one recently and not having used one before, Ive found the separate instructions for the dish, receiver and sat finder very contradictory and difficult to understand - anybody got any simple instructions on how to set it all up on site?

I went to our local store at 12.30 today and they had sold out, not surprising if they started selling them yesterday, they were only supposed to go on sale today.

Most disappointed, had to stop off for coffee and a slice to cake to ease the disappointment, now I have no dish AND I've ruined my diet this week (

Glenn I did the same as you and just bought the Lidl caravan satellite system.

Setting it up was easy and finding a satellite, with a cheap satellite finder, even easier.

I had good signal Strength and Quality and was 'locked on' to Astra 28.2E but could only get 8 English speaking channels.

Absolutely perfect picture but am I on the wrong satellite ?

The first satelite i found was transmitting dozens of German porn channels!! Its the astra 28.2e you want. Easy to find with the compass jobby then it was a case of fine turning the dish side to side & up and down while watching the signal strength and quality meters on the tv screen. All the channels downloaded right away - then it was a case of saving the ones I want to the favorates list so i dont have to trawl through hundreds next time.

BTW according to my other half these stores often put their offers on late in the day before they are advertised. That way they are prepared and priced correctly for the morning rush!

I have done a write in the past for you guys for free to air but I see you have a problem or two.

I f you look on the remote , left hand side you will see a pluss and minus sign this will take you thro all the sats that are pre progged, stop at 28.2 now prees no 1 channel button and then info button bottom left, bottom at this point press number 1 again this should give you a humming sound on your tv if you already get a picture or say 8 channels you are on the wrong sat, carefully move sat dish to you left and listen for the humm to become a loud pitched whistle , the higher the pitch the better signal etc you will have you should be able to see a picture behind the test card if so now press exit this should now be BBC1 London if so you have cracked it I hope this makes sense to you all if not ask Parksy or Damian for my E mail address and Il help you thro ,once youve done its easy

well i am very dissapointed with Lidl. i read the post on here last week saying that they were coming up for sale yesterday, checked their website and even went into the local branch on saturday to make sure they were available. I was at the store at 8am for opening only to find out that they had none!!! i got friends and family members to try different branches around the area only to get the same line...sorry we have not received any!! So for you lucky people who got a bargain enjoy your systems...:(

Sir Roger

It was your original instructions that I followed so thank you.

I seemed to find Astra 28.2E very easily and with high quality and strength signals. Got straight into BBC London with a first class picture but out of the first 9 programs only 8 were in English. From 9 onwards seemed to all be on satellite 19.2E where the English speaking ones were definitely on Astra 28.2E, as it said so. Did I just not look far enough into the channel listings?

I did not use the remote buttons P+ & P-.

The only other problem I had was a slight reduction on the size of the picture on 2 different TV's. Used the remote 'ZOOM' button to correct but this is only a temporary fix.

the programmes you are getting are the factory set pre-installed programmes , go into menu then choose astra2 satellitte ,then go on to scan all , and it will tune in every encrypted and uncrypted channel plus radio stations ,once thats done you can select the ones you want and put them into favourites , personally i just write the channel numbers down ,

AS joby said you have got the pre tuned programmes you can either delete what has been pre tuned and then auto scan all , up to you.

Secondly on you TV have you got the option on your remote to set 16.9 ... cinema etc that will give you a full screen.

Again if you still have problems ask Parksy or Damian for mey email address the have my permission to give it to you

Sir Roger - Again thanks very much and have now cracked it !

The second time I set the dish up did take longer than the first but I did get there eventually. I think that it might be a tree problem in the garden !!

I hadn't done the autoscan !!!!! When I did I got about 480 channels !! Mind you there are several repeated for instance there are several batches of the ITV regional channels but I can only get good sound on one of the batches.

Using the 'favourites' is simple and obviously is an easy why to manage the channels. Not sure if the favourites will stay after the receiver is switched off.

Again thanks.

Keith........If you have BBC1 London ok then it would seem you have the correct satellite, easily checked by pressing P+ and go round until you come back to Astra 28.2

You may well have to go thro the channels to find Channel 4 and 5 etc ,Channel 4 is on 100 down here in Northants

Now if you go into your epg on remote control you can scan up and down and see where all you tv channels have been installed

I hope this helps

If you are still stuck then the mods have the ok for you to have my email address ........... good luck

Keith I am sorry I didnt read your post properley, I see you are on freesat.

I have just had a quick check up and found that the channels you want are there so I would suggest you have have the wrong satellite.

Sorry I have not had much dealings with freesat only say that all should be good from I have heard .

You will just have to set up similar to to free to air which most of us are on

Regards Sir Roger

Parksy does have the guide somewhere that wil help you thro the set up ,it is the same as the Maplin set up ,

To Start with you need to assemble all that needs to be assembled get you dish on something stable and then start aligning the dish up, the compass that fits in to the back of the dish is a good guide set for south east, now set the position of your lnb arm to an approx position horizontal move the dish slowly as it takes a little time for the system read the satellite in our area THE NEEDLE ON THE COMPASS NEEDS TO ABOUT 4 OF THE LITTLE LInES IN FRmM RIGHT TO LEFTSorry caps on

now if you read my emails above you have all that you need to know ,I hope this will help you in some way

Regards Sir Roger ( Parksy can still give you my email address if you need more info )

Thank you to all of you for the morass of information, can anyone tell me the setting for the LNB. I read somewhere that its 15 degrees to the right of horizontal, but it doesn't seem to work for me and due to number one son "trying to help" I don't know what the original setting was ! Mines a Maplins kit that has worked well in the past. Any advice gratefully recieved. Peter
