Hi folks
smiley-smile.gif

Im not new to caravaning however i am more or less new to awnings. I have had the big 'divorce in a bag' for a 2 week holiday but they always tend to look like my victoria sponges - a bit squint!

We've recently made a return to caravaning and bought a super condition 1993 Adria Optima 4 berth (single dinette at rear with bunk above) - unsure of actual model number. We got a full, and very good, awning with it but we want to go for a light weight porch awning but have no idea

It has to be decent enough quality without costing the earth as the van itself wasn't expensive obviously, but have good access, be big enough for a couple of chairs, kids bike and muddy wellies - not nessesarily at the same time. Colour largely unimportant but caravan is a mix of white and blue and has to be a relative doddle to put up - easy peasy is a must.

Im usure of makes, what size to get and how to measure, what to pay and how you make it all weater proof at the sides where it meets the van.

We're off for a week in a couple of weeks and would really like it for then incase its hideous weather!

Can anybody please help?! It would be much appreciated.

Thanks, David

Hi David the Kampa rally seems to be a good choice on here and many folk on here have them and are happy with them
Click on the link http://www.caravanstuff4u.co.uk/product1695.html they are availible in a smaller version of 260 (2 windows)
I have a Fleetwood made by Adria and in the same colours as your van so I went for the blue
Would also advise to get all the extra's availible well worth the money i.e. Rear Poles (helps keep it water/draught proof against the van) monsoon poles and the tie down storm straps

Hope this helps and dont forget there are others who will be along with there suggestions

Super, thanks alot! Yeah, since posting, my internet research has brought the kampa range up a few times with excellent reviews.

My van, as you may have guessed with the layout description, is fairly small. Im not sure exactly but at a push 15 feet internal length.

Anyone any experience with awning land?

Thanks again :)

Think you should consider the smaller 260, one thing to bear in mind is the location of the windows, i'm fortunate that mine sits between windows, some people dont have a problem with the awning in the middle of the window but others have said some have scratched the windows. The 260 is just that 2600cm long you may have to go for another make that is 2000cm but think this would be a tad small.
Oh decisions, decisions, decisions

If your van does look like this ?
Put a tape measure up to the back of the front side window & measure backwards & see what will fit, also measure your awning rail height back to the ground.

Yes, but its a bit smaller. This one will have a double dinette at the rear with bunk above but mine is a single dinette with bunk. Talke away 1.5 - 2 feet of the length? Other than that, its identical. I'll take the tape measure out tommorow i think! Thanks very much

Having had a couple of lightweights previously I stand by my previous posts that an ordinary porch or full awning is easier to put up, especially in a bit of a breeze. I sold both of mine quite quickly after using them. However a lot of people on the forum do seem to have a passion for the kampa which to date I haven't tried!! Have you tried the full one yet, it's a nice small van so you could probably but up a full awning single handed.

I agree with Martin; on a small van a lightweight awning is going to take up almost as much space as your full awning, is not necessarily any easier to put up and may end up across a window. There will also be fewer draughts as it will sit in the awning channel. Plus you already have a full awning, hence saving a couple of hundred quid.

Our Kampa Rally has took a hammering in Cumbria in the last 3 weeks and not so much as one drip inside. I'm glad I bought the extra buffer poles, monsoon poles and storm straps. It makes the awning a lot more robust. It's still being tested here in Notts. Rain today and Wednesday for the rest of the week
