Lightweight Porch Awnings

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a lighweight porch awning to use witha Bailey Pageant. Howver there seem to be mixed views of what they are like in rain and particularly the fact that water collects on the roof if the site is not dead level. It is impractical to expect a level site so are they that poor when on sloping sites even with the van leveled on blocks? The Kyham Rigidome looks attractive given its speed tos et up. I would welcome any feedback from owners of lightweight awnings on their experiences.

Thanks

Hi Other Clive

I have the Sunncamp Scenic Plus which I have commented on in other threads. Although I do have the problem of water gathering in the roof especially during heavy rain, it is still a roomy porch and so far completely water tight.

We have a suncamp scenic plus porch awning too. Found it to be good value, easy to set up and take down, dries quite quick and good in bad weather. Plenty of room inside. We havnt had any probs with rain collecting but have been woken a couple of times in really windy conditions with poles rubbing against the van sides, soon fixed with a tea-towel between pole and van!

We have our van on a seasonal pitch with a slight slope and have never encountered problems with setting up. Ours is so good we havnt set the full awning up for over twelve months!

We have the Scenic Plus on our Pageant Burgundy. No problem with water collecting on the roof so far. We bought some rubberr suckers, and cut a vee and the horizontal pole sits in this and protects the van. If its wet, we just put it in the shower and then dry it on the line when we get home. Excellent value for money.

We have an avondale dart and a scenic plus porch awning and have never had pooling on the roof. I think that the height of the van can affect the angle of the roof panel of this type of awning though.

Cheers

Hello other clive we bought a suncamp ultima 260 awning. We have just returned from primrose valley. One day the weather was bad, winds of over 50 mph and torrential rain the awning was fantastic the only thing is that the sides of the awning flaps about a bit, but would all porches do this. overall we are more than pleased with the suncamp.

Will,

Also thinking about an ultima for our Avondale Rialto.... How do the awning sides secure ?, can they be run over a window or does it need smooth window free sides ?.

Cheers for any info.

We have the Scenic Plus. It's been brilliant, even in the heaviest downpours and gales. It's never collected water and is bone dry.

I've never had any problems with the sides - just make sure it's pulled tight, as close to the caravan side as possible (peg under the 'van is best)

We are quite interested in a porch awning as for a couple of days away the full awning takes a long time to put up. How much room do you get in a scenic plus and how long do they take to erect. Denise

I am definately going for a Sunncamp for this year. I am always put off going for long weekends due to the hassle of putting up a full awning. I think we are going to see more and more of these cracking wee awnings.
