Hi

We have not yet got a caravan but are very close now as we have been looking into it for months.

I would like to know if anyone has a list of the stuff you would need for a caravan.

We know we will need plates cups etc but what about all the other stuff we don't know about, can anyone help.

Thanks

If memory serves the CC has a basic list of items on their web page. I know that there is also something similar in their handbooks.

Not trying to avoid the issue but we all have different ideas of what is important. However, have a basic look at what you use everyday in your house (ignoring the electrical gadgets) and that will give you a start. We actually started by 'pinching' the stuff rom the house till we got the hang of things. As long as you have clothes, food, bedding/towels cooking utensils and crockery, and of course a corkscrew then you will do fine. If you have forgotten something then there is always a supermarket handy.

Hi Amanda

Sctoch Lad is use surplus items from home initally, but you can purchase a lot of your everyday bits and pieces from your local supermarket or Argos, we bought our first van two years ago and it was quite scarey when you think what you may need but had great fun see how cheap I could get everything for and used Argos/Asda/Tesco and eBay.

Happy shopping and enjoy. My one recomondation is though that you air on the side of caution when it comes to electrical equipment so that you don't overload your circuit (as a freind did last weekend with his new van), he bought a normal heater from DIY store, couldn't understand why when he had water heater, van heaters, kettle, microwave and straighters (teenages just won't leave them at home!!) and then the room heater why the electric tripped! He had his first lesson on 12v electrics!

One way to think of caravan electrics is to think of the whole van as a single plug socket. The max output of a carvan (about 16A) is less than 13A once the water heater has been taken into account. How much at home would you plug into a single socket??

Some sites (especially abroad) will only give each van 6A so leave the kettle and toaster at home and give the site's electrics a rest
