Technically of course you can, as long as you stay within the caravans MTPLM. Also ensure that the objects can not move around during travel.

Generally caravans have a small payload. The plate by the door will tell you MIRO and MTPLM - and the MIRO will be a similar van off the production line. But at least the difference between the two is a guide to your payload which has to include almost anything you put in the van from cutlery to clothes! And as has pinged in while I write you should not exceed the MTPLM.

It is OK to stow items in the van above the axle, but don't overload your van, I stow item under the front bunks, but as long as I don't exceed the nose weight of the car or caravan.
Have you thought about MAD'S spring assists, great for exactly the situation your having.

Back when the Granada was a popular tow car, caravans were lighter with a lower nose-weight so might be worth finding out what it's maximum nose-weight limit is (if you haven't already? It's possibly only around 50kgs.

........a decent sized roof box can swallow a lot of boot-stuff, distributing the weight nearer the centre of the car, there's often quite a few on FB market place.

The 85% “rule” is just guidance about one one factor to improve stability. Experienced towers and loaders can treat it as no more than guidance.

My caravan I believe is actually too heavy for the granada to tow but I've been towing for 20+ years, never go above 50mph so fingers crossed, touch wood and all that.

Granada estate = 1500kg
Lunar solaris = Mass in Running Order weight: 1325 kgs

And I believe your caravan/ trailer should be no more than 85% of the tow vehicle weight, so I can tow a maximum of 1,275kg

As Mel has pointed out, the "85%" ratio is a UK guideline ignored everywhere else in the world, your caravan is fine behind the Granada, get out in the sunshine and enjoy yourselves!

Somewhere (usually in a door pillar or engine bay) you will have a weight plate on your car. This carries the essential legal weights limits data. The largest value is the maximum Gross Train Mass which is the heaviest the combined car and trailer may be, and you MUST ensure your laden car and caravan with all passengers on board must not exceed the GTM.

The second biggest value is the Gross Vehicle Mass and that is the legal maximum mass the tow vehicle can be, even when its coupled to a trailer.

As a safe method of choosing a trailer the MTPLM of the trailer should not exceed the GTM - GVM.

Actually 😁 Ford were quite good at that.
Top number = maximum allowable mass = 2000kg
The second figure is the gross train weight, this is the combined maximum allowable mass of the vehicle and trailer. = 3600kg
The third and fourth figures are maximum axle loads front and rear respectively. = 930kg & 1160kg

Very modern for 1984!!!!! I have an old Triumph 2000 and the only thing on the VIN plate is the gross vehicle weight, colour code and chassis number.

Didn't the Granada have a "soft" rear suspension which maybe why it was not popular with police forces. I think the issue was with the rear end breaking away when cornering hard. I am not sure as it was a long time ago.

Oh Fred Drift happening, 3 litre Capri were great but the 2.8 was a better car.
The 2.8 Granada was lovely, but the Vauxhall Omega was the dogs Bollocks.
Then when TheTweekers got involved, ie Lotus. Wow , what cars.
Anyway, I used to tow with a Rover 3.5 V8.P5
