Hi.

Im going to need to buy and use some chemicals to clean out our water system tomorrow. I know I can get it online (probably cheaper too) but I'm going away on Saturday and want to have it done before we go.

I've googled it and it looks like the nearest shop is over 30 minutes away.

Does anyone know of a caravan supply shop in or near Leighton Buzzard or Dunstable.

Cheers.

All you need to clean your water system is Milton, which you can get from your local chemist. We use it in tablet form.

Hi.
As with chemical solutions make sure you follow the instructions. Milton should not be left in the system too long as it will begin to attack some of the metal components.

You could also consider some of the home brew cleansers

I use Milton and it does a good job, don't leave it in the system for more than around 25 minutes to avoid damage to stainless steel boiler components and give the system a good fluch through afterwards.
We never drink the water from our caravan system or use it for hot drinks because the potential for germs to breed is enormous.
We follow the advice given by Val A in This Thread and use a water bottle to fill with fresh water up from the tap when we need it.

Parksy,
How do you know Milton does a good job,do you measure water quality before and after you use Milton.
Like yourself we never use caravan water for anything other than showers/cleaning etc.
I also use Milton but can only trust that it does what it is supposed to do.

No, i am not anal enough to measure water quality before or after I have used Milton ;)
I know that it does a good job because we wash up using water from the caravan and we wash and shower using our on board facilities.
We have no black bits, no infections of any kind and touch wood, no illness when we're in the caravan.
Our Aquaroll is always nice and clean as is our drainage system so my personal opinion is that it's as good as any other sterilising agent when used correctly and considerably better than using nothing to clean and sterilise the caravan water system.

What I say about Miltons or sterilising tabs from Asda equally as good is If either of them are good enough to clean Babys feeding bottle Its good enough to sterilise caravan pipes and clean them.Like others only use water from the van to wash , shower and washing up.I always buy bottled water for tea coffee and drinking.

As the other guys say, all those products are what we use but the difference is that we drink the water and always have done.
There is no need to buy water.
In fact when we started in the caravan I don't think you could buy water like you can now so it wasn't even part of the thinking process.
Clean your pipes and drink away.
