Hi All,

Just back from first ever time away in caravan, have posted elsewhere re this but i am looking for some advice/help.

When i was packing up to come home i went to lock the front left side of the locker, i heard a crack and a piece of plastic lay on the ground. On inspection i seen that it was the plastic plate thingdy that acts as a keeper for the latch. Had snapped right off, seems to me they are pretty flimsy. Anyway, i didn't have a great deal of time to ponder on it as it was baltic and an icy north westerly wind doing its best to make my day. I secured it with the latch on the right hand side which made it secure enough to get home. It looks as though they are plates made from plastic that are rivetted on to the main panel, if this is so, can i buy a replacement and refit it ?.

cheers in advance for any advice.

Hi Sprocket,

cheers buddy, we had good time for the big test of our innaugural flight. My van is an 01 Abbey ventura 316, and it was the front gas locker i was referring to, the bloody thing just went "crack" and came off, will need tae be careful from now on when fiddling about wi these caravan latches, hatches, lockers, window stays etc, they are certainly no built to the standards of the equipment on motorcycles which i am used to plootering around with. Everything seems to be so prone to breakage wi a wee bit of elbow grease.

Hello highlander

Just thinking that the plastic may hane gone very brittle with the cold so great care should be taken when using such things as locker catches, water pump inlet covers etc.

If the offending part could be de-riveted would it not be possible to make your own from aluminium or even plastic not sure how much help this will be its just an idea.Easier than tracking down the proper part

Aye, nae worries about that, i can be a Heath Robinson when need be.

I can certainly drill out the offending remains of the keeper, then my brother in law will get me an aluminium one made in at his work, a local engineering firm who refurbish fire engines for all local authourities. Think they might be of higher quality than the original equipment.

These are available from Swift Group dealers. They are fastened with pop-rivets.

Hope this helps.
