Never been to france before with van, will be going in July as soon as kids break up. Kids aged 11 and 9. Got this idea of the Loire Valley, were really into cycling, canoeing. Can anyone recommend some good sites? Not really into sites with night entertainment but wouldn't mind a pool and kids play area.

Our favourite in that area is L'Etang de la Breche (in Castels Chain)close to Saumur. Our Children are 10 and 5 and they love this site. Another site near Blois - part of Castels Chain - La Grenouliere. Not so well laid out as the other but good facilities and I noticed a van leaving the site daily towing a trailer with canoes - an activity the site offered. Close to Chambord and Chenonceau - great days out.

Might be a bit far south for you but La Citadelle at Loches is a good site. We have stayed there several times. Quite often we have a superpitch there which are in a newer part of the site and bigger than the standard pitches. Loches is within very easy walking distance from the site and is a historic town in its own rite.

Hi

One more thing. France uses a different electrical switching system to us which means that their polarity (live and neutral)are often reversed. If you haven't been to France before, take with you an electrical polarity tester and make yourself a polarity converter from male and female blue mains plugs and half a meter of cable. You effectively swap the live and neutral wires over in this short piece of cable. If you find polarity is reversed then you put your converter in the mains cable circuit and it will sort it out for you. We have even had the blue style power sockets on reverse polarity more than once. Oh yes you will need a French plug adaptor for your mains cable as well as many of the sites over there do not have the standard blue socket anyway. Have a great time in France. We go as often as we can and love it.

Regards

Tim
