Loire valley

Can anyone give us some ideas on caravan/camping sites in the Loire valley as this will be our first visit to this region, We are looking for a small quiet site preferably british owned not bothered about swimming pool or bar facilities but a site with fishing would be nice either riverside or lake. Also as we have booked an early crossing through the euro tunnel is there anywhere we can park up in calais safely for a few hours sleep, someone suggested motorway service areas but is this a safe option. If it helps we are traveling late August going into september staying in the Loire valley for a week before moving up to Normandy. All ideas would be appreciated.

You don't say which area of the Loire you want to visit, but I can recommend one at the western end, near the old garrison town of Saumur. It's called "Le Chant d'Oiseau", which should be enough to tell you that it is quiet. British owned by a couple from Yorkshire, who live on site, and provide a cup of tea or coffee on arrival (well, they did for us). Super people, lovely site. The only possible quibble is that the surface soil is sandy, but that really is nit-picking.
We've not been for about four years, so I hope it's still the same. Their regular newsletter hasn't shown any changes, only improvements. There are also gites on site.
Just google the name.

CHESHIRECAT. you will keep your smile if you visit Camping de la Touche.John and Roz are great people. The site is at Ligueil near Loches. Fishing on site and lakes about quater mile from site.We have stayed there lots of times. Reasonable rates and no charge for dogs. The site has easy access and roomy pitches. Lots of trees and fields of sunflowers all around.Owls hooting at night and squirrels in the trees.

Very impressed so far but please keep them coming, Emmerson le chants looked ideal but unfortunately they only allow pets in low season, I should have stated that sorry.

Have a look at this one. Just twelve pitches, peace and quiet, we call on the way down to the Dordogne. Lovely owners huge pitches and great for dogs There is an area that you can let them run free www.loireholidays.biz no fishing though. Owners are really nice and will help you in any way they can. And you get a drink on arrival.
