Hi,we are going to the GB south and London next summer. Can anybody recommend a good campsite in London to visit the city for a week,(with childrens). Public transport from the camp to the city center? Thanks, Juan
Hello Juan. I can recommend the Caravan Club site at Crystal Palace (London). It is open all year and is open to non-members.You will have to book, if you are going during our holiday period.Bus terminus outside site for central London.Book direct to site on (0)20 8778 7155 or via Caravan Club.
Try the Caravan club site at Crystal Palace - very secure, good facilities, not much on site for the kids, but Crystal Palace is adjacent with concrete dinosaurs etc. Bus stop immediately outside, or tube about a 1/4 mile. Open to non-members too.
Try the Caravan Club site at Crystal Palace. Buses to the city pass the gate, and it is about 5 miles south of the centre. http://www.caravanclub.co.uk
Juan, The C&CC site at Chertsey would meet your needs. There is a frequent train service to Waterloo, the train station is a 20 min stroll from the site.
So we're all agreed on Crystal Palace then. There is no tube station nearby. Crystal Palace, Sydenham Hill and Gypsy Hill mainline stations are within reasonable walking distance, but from this site a London bus will be best. You will find full details at reception, and I think you can buy one-day and weekly travelcards from there too.
We have stayed at the campimg and caravanning club site (non members welcome) at Chertsey. Very clean and tidy good location in south west of the capital, close to the m25 and also very handy for Legoland, Chessington and Thorpe Park.(tel 01932 562405)
I suggest the CC site at Abbey Wood, it's very close to the rail station abd easy to reach from the M25 / A2.
You can use travelcards for rail, underground and bus from that site and the trains stops at Greenwich and other main attraction areas as you near the city centre. Non-members are welcome
don't go to crysal palace very hard to get to unlees you like to tow about 10 miles through very, very dense traffic, long hike to train station & not very nice locals. abbey wood not far from m25& motorway type A2 with easy signposts & only 2 miles through pleasant rural area . site has had millions spent by club & is only a 5 min walk to train station
