I'm looking for recomendations on a small car to tow behind our Bailey 76-2 MoHo. Any A Frame suppliers in the Midlands also please. I have the tow bar sorted. TIA

Smart car or the Citroen C1 or Toyota or Peugeot equivalent seem popular choices. Saw a C 1 in France off load a Pyrenean Mountain dog out of the back when the MH was pitched for the holiday.

Damian has referred to Kaytow at Brierly Hill and the Bristol-based company he mentioned will be LNB Towbars

A few cars will be unsuitable for A-frame towing as their construction or transmission will prevent the required modifications. Many will be OK if the A-frame system is the basic ‘overrun braking’ type that operates the towed car’s brakes mechanically by pulling on a cable. Where the A-frame system is more sophisticated, an installer may restrict the choice of car to specific makess/models - for example, the LNB Towbars website advises

We currently adapt around 25 cars to towcars. It is not always possible to adapt every car.

The original Smart car had a semi-automatic gearbox and Mercedes-Benz advised that, if the car were towed, speed should be limited to 30mph, but plenty of Smarts have been A-frame towed by UK motorcaravanners generally without problems. This supplier will make the necessary modifications

I recall reading something in a magazine that seemed to say that A frames were not totally approved fir use under the C&R regulations. But that when questioned the then VOSA didn’t give a categorical yes or no. But generally in UK the police and other authorities plus insurers take a pragmatic view. But there was a warning that Continental authorities may not be so pragmatic.

No it has not

and there has now been another twist where some UK A-framing motorhome owners have chosen to register their towed-car as a trailer using this on-line procedure
