Looking for towcar

Need some help. I am looking for an automatic diesel estate, up to £6000, I have been looking at the Audi A6, VW Passat and 5 series BMW. My first choice would have been tha A6 with the DSG box but after reading up on it the general consensus is that it is unreliable after 100000 miles. The Passat uses the same box, so that leaves the BMW, does anyone have any thoughts on this.
Regards
Tom

If the BMW has a good service history I would go with that one as its a conventional torque convertor auto. But some BMWs required additional cooling which if fitted after manufacture can be expensive ie +£1k. Some owners have run the larger BMWs without teh cooling as they dont tow large vans or travle over mountain passes in summer. But its something to take note of.

Agree with Clive,my only other concern would be to try and make sure its one of the 6cylinder variants. As there has been problems with the 4 cylinder diesel models.
