Low pressure kitchen mixer

Hi

Weve just been for our third trip away in our swift conquerer 645 so not sure about the pressure on the mixer tap, it seems to take forever to fill the kitchen sink with hot water compared to the bathroom sink which has good pressure. Before anybody says is the kitchen sink bigger hence takes longer to fill! its the actual pressure it comes out.Is it because its further away from the hot water tank? Is there anything that can be done to increase this pressure? Also are onboard pumps particually noisy on caravans? As this is our first iv'e nothing to compare it to. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

Depending on the age of your 645, there could be a number of causes, but I would suggest look at the obvious first:

Are both taps fitted with the same aerator? They could either have an aerator which supplies a large column of water or a fine jet spray. The jet spray, while offering more pressure, reduces the flow of water. If this is not preferred, the aerator can be changed.

If the aerators are OK, and again, depending on the age, I would look for leaks and / or blockages in the pipes, by tracing the pipes from the boiler and pump to the tap, either on the same side or opposite sides of the vehicle.

If the slow water supply is only on the hot position of the tap (the distance between the tap and boiler should not have any effect on water flow), the try swapping the connectors to the tap over, so the cold pipe is supplying the hot side of the tap, and vice versa. This will eliminate a faulty tap.

I hope that helps.

I changed the aerator on my new Sterling Topaz as when it filled the sink it was all bubbles and little else, noe I have changed it for one like in the bathroom its slower but sooooooo much better to fill the sink with

Fast is not always best!!!!!!!

Hi

Thanks for the swift reply guys no pun intended Ash! the van was new feb 09 if this makes any difference but i'll have a look at your suggestions.I know that the taps dont have a jet spray diffuser and theres no leaks so i'll swap the pipes and see what happens

Hi Mark,

As it's a 2009 vehicle, it will have the same aerator in both taps, but please confirm if this is not the case.

It is also unlikely to have a leak that affects only one tap, as both taps are on the same water circuit.

So, if it's not the aerator and you get the problem only on the "hot" setting, try swapping the connections over to eliminate a faulty tap.

Thanks,

Ash

I had a similar problem and found a "kink" in the supply pipe which restricted the flow. I replaced that piece of pipe and it cured the problem.

Follow the pipe from inlet through to pump & tap it only takes a small restriction to cause this problem
