Lubricating a jockey wheel...what with

Just bough a new alko (pheumatic tyre) to replace the existing rubber one. Noticed the handle is not as long a hence seems much harder and more effort to turn. Also it appears to be dry, can I , should I lubricate, if so what with...the van appears to have a lot of white looking grease on a lot of the parts after the service? I guess normal grease is going to be mucky and a potential hazzard for getting on clothes etc...or am I just being Mr fussy!
 
All grease is mucky!! whether it is white, black, copper or grey.

I use motorbike chain lube on most winding mechanisms as it is very sticky, does not melt in the summer sun and stays where it is put.

At the risk of teaching grandmother...etc I always wind the two parts of the jockey wheel apart, take it out of the A-frame or bracket, and pump ordinary grease down the hole on the lower part - not a lot, the threaded bit is only an inch or so. Then, on re-assembly, I trickle a bit of oil into the knob pivot, and a bit more where the handle turns around at the top of the shaft.
