lumpy tyre gripping rollers on Truma mover

Oops, my husband forgot to disengage the rollers on our Truma caravan mover as we left our site today. As we drove away my husband said that he felt the caravan to be sluggish behind us, he checked that the handbrake was disengaged and set off again. After about one mile smoke was bellowing out from the tyres and we stopped and checked, we found that the rollers on the mover were still engaged and the rough suface had completely worn away.

Once home we found to our relief that the motors appear to be OK but the now smooth rollers do not give the required grip and they tend to slip on the tyres.

Three questions please:

Are these rollers easily obtainable? are they expensive? are they easyish to fit as a DIY project?

All advice and guidance greatly appreciated, many hanks Jean

Jean, you should be able to get replacement rollers o/k, but I would be more concerned about the state of your tyres, take them to a reputable agent and get them checked out before you venture out with the van. Bazz.

Jean I fear every time I use the mover I will forget to disengage.

The best thing the guy who fitted the mover said to me through all the demonstration was to put the tool to engage and disengage on the drivers seat of the car, that way you will never forget cus you will sit on it if you do.

I have done that on every trip.

I did loose the remote one time, had to buy a replacement (reconditioned at

Thanks everybody who replied to my questions.

We bought replacement rollers and had the tyres checked out. Taking off the old rollers and replacing with the new ones took about five minutes, job complete and sorted .... total cost
