Hi. Hoping someone will be able to tell me where the main earth point on a '85 Lunar Jupiter is located? As the field where we store it has more than it's fair share of nettles I don't want to have to crawl all around the underside trying to find it!

Also can anybody confirm if the wiring on caravans conforms to the same colour coding as cars, ie. brown = earth?

Thanks

Iain

Iain - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, particularly electrics.

12v return circuits, commonly called earth, wrongly, can be black or brown on cars depending whether US or European standards have been used.

12v return circuits on caravans are often white.

Brown is the 230v neutral circuit - very dangerous if tampered with - the 230v earth circuit will be green or green/yellow.

Caravan electrics, both 12v and 230v, should only be touched by a competent electrician - the same applies to cars and houses.

Hi Roger

Thanks for your concern. I have reached this ripe old age by being extremely cautious and note your warning. However, the problem has been solved by the liberal application of contact cleaner to all the terminals in the fuse block, so that must be where the bad connection was. In due course I'll clean off all the connections and remake them - no ehu or battery connected I promise you!

Thanks again

Iain

Hello Iain,

It is not permitted to use the caravan chassis as a 12V -ve return, or as the earth return on 230Vac systems. These systems should use proper wiring for both functions Whilst the caravan chassis should be earthed it is not main circuit.
