lyons gate

hi all , has any of you good people been to lyons gate caravan site , cerne abbas , dorset , if so what's it like is it clean & whats the fishing like ....pete

I've never heard of that site and surprisingly cannot find any reviews about it. I've looked at the website and it looks great and the aerial map shows it is surrounded by woodland with what looks like paths through it. Already I can see myself on a balmy summers day, pitched alongside one of the pools, feet up, drink in hand, fishing away :O) I wouldn't even mind paying 50p each for my pooches if it was good. If you go keep me updated please. I've put that site into my favourites.

We stayed there last year, when arriving the site looks a bit odd but once inside it is very nice. The lakes are good with lots of fish to be caught, each lake has different types and sizes to suit most. The ground seem well looked after.

The toilets were dated but clean and the showers were 20p I think but you had to put your money in the meter in the lobby so you either pay with your clothes on and then quickly undress or undress and come out in a towel to pay, my wife didnt like this much. The only other thing that spoilt the site a little is that there are lots of seasonal pitches so the site looks full even though there was not many people staying.

The electricity was on a meter which you purchased cards for at

Pete/LB, I have not stayed there for 15 years or so but travel past it rergularly. It's in a nice part of the world, fairly close to the Cerne Giant, on the A352 between Dorchester and Sherborne both of which are pleasant county type towns with Sherborne being the most 'unspoilt' by modernisation. The A252 follows the river and is in a valley with hills each side.

meant A352 of course!

Thanks for that ray.

Question for simon .... the wood alongside, from the aerial pics it looks as if there is pathways in the woods. Is this so and is it somewhere that you can take the dogs for a walk???

There are walks in the woods but I was too busy fishing to try them. The owner was talking about developing the woods with nature trails and things for the kids but I dont know if he has done it. I asume that you would be able to walk your dogs there but there is a few animals on a small farm on site so they would have to be on leads.
