M40 north Oxford services - AVOID when towing!!!

Called in here yesterday with the caravan on the back, what a shambles. Caravan signs take you to an area at the far end of the car park (you have to tow through the car park, not difficult but watch out for cars pulling out of spaces) which has several caravan bays (probably about 20) which are drive in/drive out style. They are only just long enough for a car towing a single axle caravan and not wide enough for two caravans side by side to open the caravan door! Most were taken up by vans but opposite (the drive-out bit) are Tesla chargers. Fortunately these were not in use as if there had been cars using them you couldn't pull far forwards enough with a caravan to get out to avoid tail-swing wiping out the car next to you. Forgot to take a photo, but trust me, it's not great.

One reason if I know I will have to fill up on route at a service station not been used before I always have a look on Google Earth before leaving for journey. Same as when going to a previously unused site to look at approach roads.

I usually do the same but with there being an accident on the M1 we used the M40 and I got the "I could do with a wee" comment from the passenger seat. I do wonder what sort of research some planners do before laying tarmac............

Pity the service managers aren’t as fastidious moving WVM on to the non caravan/motorhome spaces, or clamping. We would often have to use HGV areas in various services around UK. But to be honest the French weren’t great in autoroute aires.
