hi there has anyone got one of these kits with the C-mag sl30/12 1ci receiver?

im having a spot of bother!

when setting it up i can get the signal intencity to up over 85% but the signal quality will only stay around 14% im guessing i have to have the quality alot higher as it will not pick anything up.

any help would be very much appreciated the hedge at our site last week end was looking very tempting to heave it over!!!!! lol

Hi, I get exactly that symptom on our Lidl setup when the dish is pointing at the wrong satellite. Haven't bothered trying to tune in or investigate, I just know if I move a few degrees to the left the intensity will fall off, a few degrees more and it will rise again but with a concurrent rise in quality as well. I just ignore the intensity reading and go by quality alone, and I've got to the point now where I don't use a sat finder or even a compass. Don't lose patience, it does get easy with practise.

Hello Graham,

Ive got a Maxview portable system which is similar in operation.Persevere with it,because once you get the knack its a piece of cake to set up.A few tips

1.I think its worth buying a cheap compass(a couple of quid)so that you know where direct south is.

2.Make sure all the connections are all ok and tight.

3.Make sure you have got line of sight.Trees, hedges, caravans, cars are all bad news. They work ok in an awning.

4.Set dish to direct South and then move it SLOWLY anticlockwise towards east. You will pick up Astra 1 first at approx 19 degrees from south. This is all foreign, you dont want this.

5. Continue to move the dish anticlockwise until you get to 28 degrees from South,at which point you will pick up Astra 2.The quality will shoot up to between 70 and 80 percent, and you should then get a decent picture on the telly.Lock the dish in place.

6. I have my dish pointing slightly downwards, just off the vertical.

7. Make sure your receiver is set to receive Astra 2.

Once youve mastered it takes a couple of minutes if that.I think the key thing is to move the dish as slow as possible,as it is very easy to miss the satellite.

Hope this helps

Cheers Richard

Graham and Sally if you have got that close then heres the best way forward, set the arm the lnb is sitting on to approx horizontalit is this position you need to get your 14% higher, but first of all take you hand set and press the in fo button and then press 1 and gently move dish around to you either get a humming sound or even a high pitched whistle, the higher pitch whistle you get the better the picture will be .

If you still struggle ask the mods for my E mail address and Ill help you further

Good Luck

Sir Roger

HI! Graham & Sally with 85% you should still get a picture on your telly .rememberyou should set your tv to AV or at least i have to on my tv .if you are using your house SKY box then go to services on your remote then go to no4 system setup then no6 signal test that should give you the readings on the top two lines signal and strenth. when moving your dish to find signal you need to move it ,then stop for 4/5 seconds, then move small ammount ,then stop again for 4/5 seconds ,then same again ,do not just swing it about without stopping everytime .

hope this helps

cheers Duggie

p.s i use a maplins setup had it for about 6 years still works great .43cm small dish works from Morvich site n/east of Scotland to as far down as Derbyshire with no problems .

Hi Graham

I've got the same system and get best results just by using a compass then lining my wrist watch up so 12 o'clock is in line with south then line the sattelite dish up with 11 o'clock on the watch, works every time and a lot cheaper than a sattelite finder

hi

I do not wish to hijack the the thread but I have a poblem also and the answers may help?

I have aquired a brand new 'sky' dish and quad LNB, exactly the same as the house. I have set it up on a tripod and connected it to my std multiroom box and to the tv by scart. I rough alined it with the house and checked the signal by way of the std box, strength approx 90% and quality about 75/80%, switch it to tv and it came up 'NO SIGNAL'

any ideas

Hi Robert you've somehow got this request on the end of a thread about sat. dishes. Suggest you re-post under Equipment and as a new topic with Alko hitch lock as the subject.
