We're planning to go to Spain in later on this year and have just realised that we will need marker boards for the back of our caravan as we will be over the 12m length limit.

Has anyone else any helpful suggestions on where to get these, how best to attach them to the caravan etc. and also if you take them off in the UK? Any help would be appreciated, please.

First time for Spain and don't really want to fall foul of the Spanish police!

Also, any suggestions on the best route from Bilbao to San Pere Pescador (north of Barcelona)?

You can fit one long board to the back of the van or two shorter ones, I fitted the two short ones because I got them in a better position on the van. You can get the spec on the boards from the CC website. As Christine & Alan have said they are easily obtained from your local Commercial motor factors.

I fitted mine with 3M sticky pads from B&Q. Look for the ones that are removable. When fitted they have a little tab that sticks out from behind the sign. To remove you just pull gently on this tab and it peels out.

We travelled to Villanova Park, just south of Barcelona in early June this year. I had purchased these boards from the site mentioned on the CC web-site. I planned to fix them to the 'van with stick 'n' stick velcro (so as not to invalidate the warrenty). Anyway in the end I did not bother fixing them and drove into and out of Spain with no bother.

I ask the same question a couple of months ago. In the end I also purchased some from Road Pro

www.roadpro.co.uk

in Daventry they said it is best to use heavy duty velcro tape.

I got some velcro, put it on the boards, ready to go. We stopped on the Aire de la baiae Somme on our first night and saw a couple of Spanish registered cars. Both drivers were English so I asked them, they both said that this law only applied to Spanish registered cars. We spent our last night at Perpignan before crossing over the boarder. Guess what I forgot to put the boards on, I didn't have any problems at all. we spent a week at L'amfors in St Pere Pescador. I didn't see any Caravans of any nationality with them on, only Motorhomes that were carrying bikes on a bike rack.

Hope this helps

Les

I did exactly the same as Michael

I spent a month in Vilanova park in Spain Xmas and new year , i was the only one with marker boards,i stuck mine on with sticky pads from the pound shop and i drilled a hole in the top of the boards and put an electrical tie through and around the grab handles in case they came loose , i would say its allways best to be road legal you never know if you have an accident your insurance could be invalid because you didnt have the boards ,for the sake of 20 quid its not worth it
