matching car to caravan

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help, i am new to caravaning, and I am in the process of buying the new Kia Sorento 2.2KX3auto, and would like advice, if i brought the Bailey Pegasus 624 Twin axle do you think it would be suited to the Kia for towing? Or do i have to get a smaller caravan.

Many Thanks

Halina

Hi Halina, according to the Whattowcar site, the new Sorento 2.2 diesel (2 wheel drive ) has a kerbweight of 1825kg, the Pegasus 624 has a mtplm of 1661kg, this will make it a match of 90%, this is ok if you have towed before.

The 2.2 diesel with 4 wheel drive has a kerbweight of 185kg which will give an out fit match of 87%

Hi Halina.

To get your 85% rule for towing first find out your cars kerbweight then devide that by 100 then mutiply by 85. The number you are left with is 85% of your tow cars kerbweight.Which is a perfect match.

Dougie,

85% is not a "rule" as it has no basis in law or any regulations. It is only a suggested guideline.
