I took out comprehensive cover thru CC last Oct. car failed to start at home yesterday. Green Flag refused to attend because i didn't have Home Start! OK, it's my fault for not reading the small print, but beware, comprehensive in Green Flag doesn't mean the same as it does to most of us! I left the AA cos of small print, and they wouldn't recover my caravan.Red Flag say they will do the van if required, but I think I'll read the small print first. Probably OK on days without a "Y" in them!Caveat Emptor!

Hi Emmerson - another point to be considered is that the majority of recovery organisations will not recover caravans/motor homes over 18 ft. long or over a certain weight under normal circumstances. Should they be instructed to do this there will be a surcharge as specialist transport would be required. The only way I have found around this is with the RAC through the C&CC as a member of "Arrivals". With this scheme there is no restriction on length or weight.

To be fair, emmerson, the different levels of service are clearly identified. Most of the recovery companies differentiate between breakdown assistance, recovery and home start.

Mayday, from the CC, specifically WILL recover large outfits, without restriction despite the fact that green Flag have restrictions for their own customers!

Roger, I did admit to it being my own fault for not reading the small print, but I genuinely thought comprehensive meant just that. I agree that they say will recover the caravan if neccesary, but I'm still going to read the small print. I repeat, caveat emptor!

I thought everyone new that home start isnt included unless u pay extra for it.

I have no complaints with mayday, when a tyre tread came off & wrapped around the axle one sunday afternoon, mayday put the caravan on a trailer and took it to skeggy for me, when he couldnt find a tyre fitter open to change the wheel.

we too left the AA when we bought our caravan and signed up to

mayday. we pay just short of 100 pounds ayear,i think as we have

both our cars covered.

what i like about the policy is if you breakdown whilst on your

way to a site, they wil take you there and if car cannot be fixed, they will take you home after your holiday. worth the 100

pounds just for our main holiday, and yes the AA kept giving us different answers when we where trying to find out about caravan

cover.

I had trouble getting definate answers too.The only positive statement was that they would recover the van if it was towable!!When I pointed out that if it was towable, I wouldn't need recovery, I didn't get a reply.
