That was def a day for frequent warm up breaks! Really cold out there! And I had egg salad for dinner so covered everything there!
Got all the old sealant off the two skins where the roof joins the back panel. Got some stuff from the local caravan shop that I thought prob wouldn't help much but it was brilliant. It seemed to dissolve the sealant that was left behind very quickly.
Used meths to clean everything after so it's ready for fresh sealant tomorrow.
I'll post a pic of that stuff that got the sealant off tomorrow. It's in the van and I'm now entrenched on the sofa. And my hands have turned into claws.

Just out of curiosity look if the roof panel over laps the side panel(,mine does by a couple of inches)if it does try to remove it any old sealer,try to squeeze new sealer into gap.I found when refitting screws for rail to only tighten slightly and leave it for a couple of hours giving seal time to flow out the tighten screws again.You may find the sealer(if bitumastic) is easier to use if put in a bucket of warm water to make it flexible.
Yeah I've been there! Stayed around there with a few friends a few years ago around this time of the year. It was a good trip but but a cold one!
I'm in Belfast so my main enemy is rain. I got away with it for days there but when I started doing the sealant today the rain came. Id only just got a bead of sealant into the joint of the roof and the back panel so I was pretty sure I'd not get the roof rail on without the seal being full of water.
So I wrapped the roof rail in this black cling film stuff my wife has for her business and screwed it on upside down so that at least I'd get an even enough gap between the two surfaces. And be able to remove the rail again if any sealant got on it. I've probably got a bit of a mess of sealant to clean up cause I smoothed off the stuff that came out in a big hurry.
And then I gaffa taped a tarp over it! Bloody weather here is desperate for getting any sort of work done outside.
So where I'm at now is I'm pretty sure the surfaces that the sealant went on were nice and dry. I use a hairdryer out there for stuff like that cause otherwise you end up with wet surfaces from the humidity. Heating things up really helps delay the inevitable dampness.
I guess the issue now is that when I go to attach the rail the sealant won't stick to the already applied stuff. Or will it? I'm not sure about non setting mastic I've not used it before. It maybe doesn't matter so much since most of what I put on today is between the joint of the two panels.
So that was all a bit of mayhem. And it was all going so well up until then!
oh and I flattened the end of the sealant nozzle like you said. That worked a treat!

I don"t think so this was mine a few years ago we use it for seasonal as you can see it a twin axle caravan.
