Can anyone recommend a supplier of a 4 person (16 piece) melamine dinner set, no pattern, just a plain colour all over.

I've looked at a lot of sites and they seem vary in price between £16 and £24. Any one know of a supplier offering a range (rather than just one choice) and priced in the £10 region.

Thanks

Tim

Hi Wendy

Excuse my ignorance, but what is Arcopol and where can we buy it? I am also looking for a new dinner set and am open to any options.

Thanks

Hi Janet,

Arcopal (also Luminarc and Arcoroc) are a range of table crockery made from Pyrex glass. Almost unbreakable, and available in a wide range of plain and patterns.

For the range see http://www.arc-intl.com/Accueil.aspx

I bought our set of Luminarc from an Auchan hypermarket in Grande Synthe (France), paid something like Euro 1 for a cup and saucer and Euro 1,50 for a dinner plate - and in a nice modern design.

In the UK you can buy the "plain white" range for around the same prices - or wait until you go to France?

I love Arcopal crockery too, but be very careful when handling it! If you drop it, like glass, it shatters into minute pieces and gets into amazing places.

Is there an outlet for this crockery in the UK?

Melamine always stained with tea and some fruits and beetroot etc and if you forget and put it in a microwave it's a messy affair.

No idea what it is bit all our caravanning crockery is French and glass like but does bounce most of the time.

I think you will find that the genuine arcopal that use to be sold in Caravan shops and in french Hypermarkets ceased production several years ago. You can now but the items already mentioned on the forum but I dont think it is the same. The original stuff which we still have is fabulous and has given years of service, we bought the basic set over here then loads of extra bits from the hypers, but we have not seen it for years now.
